The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
