The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
