The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
