The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
