He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
