And remember Our bondman Ayyub (Job); when he cried out* to his Lord, “The devil has struck me with hardship and pain.” (After seven years of patience.) 41 We said, "Stamp your foot! Here is cool water for you to wash in and drink," 42 And We gave him his family and the like of them with them, as a mercy from Us, and as a reminder to those possessed of understanding. 43 "And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike therewith (your wife), and break not your oath. Truly! We found him patient. How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)! 44 Remember also Our servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob -- men of might they and of vision. 45 Assuredly We purified them with a quality most pure, the remembrance of the Abode, 46 And verily they are with us of the elect of the excellent ones. 47 Remember also Our servants Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul Kifl; each is among the excellent. 48 This is a reminder. And lo! for those who ward off (evil) is a happy journey's end, 49 Gardens of Eden with gates open wide to them, 50 Reclining therein, calling therein for many fruits and drink. 51 ۞ And with them are those of modest gaze, companions. 52 'This is what you are promised on the Day of Recompense, 53 This is Our provision for you, never to end. 54 All this (is for the God-fearing). But for the transgressors, an evil resort awaits them -- 55 hell will they have to endure - and how vile a resting-place! 56 This, [then, for them] so let them taste it: burning despair and ice-cold darkness 57 and, coupled with it, further [suffering] of a similar nature. 58 [Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire." 59 [And] they [who had been seduced] will exclaim: "Nay, but it is you! No welcome to you! It is you who have prepared this for us: and how vile a state to abide in!" 60 They say, “Our Lord! Whoever has brought this calamity upon us – double the punishment of the fire for him!” 61 And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones? 62 Was it that we (only) took them in scorn, or have our eyes (now) turned aside from them? 63 Indeed, that is truth - the quarreling of the people of the Fire. 64
