He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
