A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad. 1 This is a Book sent down toward thee, so let there be no straitness in thy breast therefor, that thou mayest warn thereby! and this is an admonition unto the believers. 2 Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember. 3 And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest. 4 No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: "Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)". 5 Thus, [on Judgment Day] We shall most certainly call to account all those unto whom a [divine] message was sent, and We shall most certainly call to account the message-bearers [themselves]; 6 And verily, We shall recount their whole story with knowledge, for We were never absent (at any time or place). 7 And the weighing on that Day is certain, then whosesoever balances will be heavy, those! they shall fare well. 8 Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs. 9 We settled you on the earth, and provided means of livelihood for you in it; but little are the thanks you give. 10
