The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
