Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 You and your fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
