Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By those that winnow with a winnowing 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 Then those (ships) that glide easily, 3 And those that distribute and apportion by Command;- 4 that what you are promised is certainly true 5 And undoubtedly justice will surely be done. 6 CONSIDER the firmament full of starry paths! 7 Lo! ye, forsooth, are of various opinion (concerning the truth). 8 and are turned away from him who is turned. 9 They but destroy themselves, they who are given to guessing at what they cannot ascertain 10 who flounder in the depths of ignorance. 11 They ask, "When will be the Day of Judgment and Justice?" 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (and tested) over the Fire! 13 Taste your persecution! this is what you would hasten on. 14 [But,] behold, the God-conscious will find themselves amid gardens and springs, 15 enjoying all that their Sustainer will have granted them [because,] verily, they were doers of good in the past: 16 They used to sleep but little in the night. 17 And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allah) for forgiveness, 18 and sharing their possessions with the beggars and the deprived. 19 And in the earth are signs for those who are certain. 20 There is also evidence of the Truth within your own selves. Will you then not see? 21 In the sky is your provision and that which you are promised. 22 By the Lord of the heavens and the earth, this is certainly true even as you speak. 23
