The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
