(Recount to them about the time) when Your Lord called Moses: "Go to the wrong-doing people, 10 the people of Pharaoh, will they not fear God? 11 'My Lord' he replied, 'I fear they will belie me 12 and my breast will be straitened, and my tongue will not be loosed; so send to Aaron. 13 And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me." 14 Allah said: "Nay! Go you both with Our Signs. Verily! We shall be with you, listening. 15 And come together unto Pharaoh and say: Lo! we bear a message of the Lord of the Worlds, 16 Send the Israelites with us". 17 (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us, 18 And yet thou didst commit that [heinous] deed of thine, and [hast thus shown that] thou art one of the ingrate!" 19 He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray. 20 Then I ran away from you in fear, but my Lord granted me the law and has appointed me as a Messenger. 21 And that favour wherewith thou didst oblige me was that thou hadst enslaved the Children of Isra'il? 22 Pharaoh said, "What is this: Lord of the Universe?" 23 'He' (Moses) replied: 'is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you believe' 24 (The Pharaoh) said to those around him: "Do you hear?" 25 Moses continued, "He is the Lord and the Lord of your forefathers." 26 Fir'awn said: verily your apostle who hath been sent unto you is mad. 27 He said: Lord of the East and the West and all that is between them, if ye did but understand. 28 Pharaoh said, "If you put forward any god other than me, I will surely put you in prison". 29 Moses asked, "What if I were to bring you clear proof (of the existence of God)?" 30 Fir'awn said: forth with it then, if thou art of the truth-tellers. 31 So Moses threw down his staff and suddenly it appeared as a serpent, plainly visible. 32 and he drew forth his hand - and lo! it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
