The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
