The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
