Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 Which the True Spirit hath brought down 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 And verily, it (the Quran, and its revelation to Prophet Muhammad SAW) is (announced) in the Scriptures [i.e. the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] of former people. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 And had We sent it down upon a person other than an Arab, 198 In order that he read it to them, even then they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 So do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided. 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 By way of reminder, and We have never been unjust. 209 And [this divine writ is such a reminder:] no evil spirits have brought it down: 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished. 213 Warn your close relatives 214 and lower your wing to the believers who follow you. 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,- 217 Who sees you when you arise 218 And watches your movements among those who prostrate in prayer. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 The satans try to listen to the heavens but many of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
