۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Are we not then to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
