And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 “We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 We have made the Koran an easy Remembrance, is there any that will remember! 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 And assuredly there met them early in the morning a torment settled. 38 “So taste My punishment, and My warnings!” 39 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 40
