A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
