The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Dragging by the head, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
