Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
