Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 You and your fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
