The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And have made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
