The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
