The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
