The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
