He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
