Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
