Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
