The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
