Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
