The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 those who demand a full measure from others 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 unto a mighty day 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 Then it will be said: 'this is that which ye were wont to belie.' 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A written record, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 And it is mixed with Tasneem. 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
