He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
