The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
