Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
