And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds." 46 But when he brought to them Our signs they laughed at them, 47 And not a sign We showed them, but it was greater than its sister sign; and We seized them with chastisement, that haply they should return. 48 And they said, 'Sorcerer, pray to thy Lord for us by the covenant He has made with thee, and surely we shall be right-guided.' 49 but when We relieved them of the torment, they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? 51 Or am I better than this man, who is contemptible and scarcely makes things clear? 52 Why then have bracelets of gold not been cast on him, or angels not come with him conjoined?' 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all. 55 And made them a precedent and example for posterity. 56
