And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 "And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me." 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "And forgive my father - he is indeed astray." 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
