Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 We are sending the she-camel to them to test them. So watch them and be patient. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. 29 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 they even wanted to seduce his guests -- but We blinded them, and said, "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" -- 37 And assuredly there met them early in the morning a torment settled. 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 We have made it easy indeed to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 40

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
