Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Say thou: it hath been revealed unto me that a company of the jinn listened, and said, verily we have listened to a Recitation wondrous. 1 'It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allah). 2 And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son 3 "'And [now we know] that the foolish among us were wont to say outrageous things about God, 4 and we had thought that men and jinn would never speak against God a lie. 5 'True, there were persons among mankind who took shelter with persons among the Jinns, but they increased them in folly. 6 and they thought, even as you also thought, that God would never raise up anyone. 7 (The jinn continued saying): "We made our way towards heaven, but we found it filled with stern guards and a flame. 8 There, we would sit to eavesdrop, but now an eavesdropper finds a flame in wait for him. 9 And so we know not whether evil is intended for those in the earth, or whether their Lord intends for them rectitude. 10 'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary: we follow divergent paths. 11 "'And withal, we have come to know that we can never elude God [while we live] on earth, and that we can never elude Him by escaping [from life]. 12 When we heard the guidance, we believed in it; and whosoever believes in his Lord, he shall fear neither paltriness nor vileness. 13 Some of us have surrendered (Muslims) and some of us have deviated. Those who surrendered sought the Right Path, 14 but as for those who have deviated, they have become firewood for Gehenna!"' 15 Had they (jinn and mankind) remained steadfast in their religion (Islam), We would certainly have given them abundant water to drink 16 So that We might try them with respect to it; and whoever turns aside from the reminder of his Lord, He will make him enter into an afflicting chastisement: 17 and that “mosques belong to Allah, so do not invoke anyone with Him”; 18 When the servant of God stood calling on Him, they were wellnigh upon him in swarms. 19

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
