The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
