The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
