The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
