Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 and couches raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
