The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
