Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 that will come upon them [on resurrection,] all of a sudden, without their being aware [of its approach]; 202 Then will they say: "Can we be given respite?" 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 for, neither does it suit their ends, nor is it in their power [to impart it to man]: 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And warn your nearest relations, 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do. 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who watches you when you get up, 218 and sees your movements among those who prostrate themselves: 219 Indeed only He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I declare unto you upon whom the satans descend! 221 They descend upon every sinful liar. 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley? 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
