The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
