The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
