The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
