The Cave (Al-Kahf)

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
(All) praise is due to Allah, Who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make in it any crookedness. 1 Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, 2 therein to abide for ever, 3 and admonish those who say that God has begotten a son. 4 They have no knowledge of this, as their fathers did not have. How terrible are the words they utter! They speak nothing but lies. 5 Yet it may be, if they believe not in this statement, that thou (Muhammad) wilt torment thy soul with grief over their footsteps. 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works; 7 For We shall certainly turn it to barren dust. 8 Do you think the men of the cave and Ar-Raqim were so strange among Our signs? 9 When those young men took shelter in the cave, and prayed: "O Lord, grant us Your favour and dispose our affair aright," 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Then roused them to ascertain which of the two groups could account for the period they had stayed. 12

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
