He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
